Week 2 Reflection

 

 During week 2 we continued with the same topic from week 1.

Task

We had to read the first two chapters of a text book and answer questions that were sent to us by our teacher using google forms. The questions were based on: The Role of Technology in Media, computer basics and storage devices.

Challenges

My challenge was that I wasn't sent one of the google forms which was computer basics. I asked someone to send me it but that attempt proved futile. I finally emailed my teacher via gmail and informed her of my dilemma and sent sent another link. I was then able to access the content and complete my assignment.

What was learned?

I had never used google forms to complete an assignment before. I found it to be very accommodating and easy to use.

Going Forward?
I will definitely be using the creative and student friendly google forms when ever its possible. It will certainly enhance the way home and class assignment are conducted by eliminating the use of books and writing materials for answering questions.

Introduction to the Internet and issues in Media and Technology

This module introduced us to the internet and suggest ways of conducting ourselves while using the internet. We were placed into groups and was asked to find the definition and examples of the following terms:

• Nettiquette, Internet and the World Wide Web
• Digital Native and Digital Immigrant

During this cooperative group session I found out that I am a  digital immigrant. This means that I was not born during the period of the technological explosion but was born some time before. We also looked at internet search techniques which included: google search, advanced search and booking marking. Professional communities were also introduced to us. These are sites where one could go to acquire a license or copyright for their work which included: creative commons. Definitions and examples for viruses, malware and antiviruses were also covered.

Conclusion
I learned quite a lot during this week. I did not know that a person could gain a copyright online. The internet is very good place to find multiple resources and a vast amount of information. However, it must used in a way where it doesn't offend or disrespect anyone. As a digital immigrant, I am still trying to find my way to become a digital native. I will certainly be sharing all that I've learned this week as a part of my lessons in the future.
